With “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” becoming the box office king this weekend, we’re taking another look back at the “G.I. Joe” cartoon that some of us grew up with. The cartoon had these little moments throughout the show that would teach children important life lessons. It also had one of the worst cartoon theme songs, but not as goofy as the entire “He-Man” series. Here now are the 8 Most Bizarre Lessons from “G.I. Joe.”
8. A recurring message from the cartoon was death. You go to sleep at night thinking you’ll be fine. Think again. Fire kills.
7. Sports is an important part of growing up. But when you get injured, what kind of lesson will be learned. Winning is everything!
6. Kids have lots of fun when they’re by the ocean. Standing on a cliff is awesome fun. But one wrong step and the parents are shopping for a child-sized casket.
5. You could tell the writers for the show ran out of ideas at times. In order to eat up some of the show time, they would create storylines around belching.
4. The show taught kids what to do when they get approached by a stranger who couldn’t speak a word of English. It’s important not to discriminate.
3. The great part about Winter is playing on the ice, falling and suffering a concussion. Luckily, a member of G.I. Joe is there to make things worse.
2. Let’s face it. Kids are going to smoke crack. Might as well teach them where to get the good stuff.
1. The cartoon was ahead of it’s time, and it dealt with what would become “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”
