I can’t be the only one out there who thinks M. Night Shamalama hasn’t made a decent movie since his first stab with The Sixth Sense. Don’t get me wrong, that was a great movie. It still is. But the Hollywood sexiness of the Indian-American director has started to wane with his efforts since. The internet is a buzz the past couple days with the new teaser trailer (below) for his upcoming film Avatar: The Last Airbender.
But as cool as a teaser trailer can be, we mustn’t forget that the ‘Night’ has been less than spectacular ever since we were first introduced to his extremely hard-to-pronounce name in ’99. While his first jump out of the gate was a success… you can’t hold onto that for your entire career.
Lets take a look at his major motion picture accomplishments and you be the judge whether or not the Last Airbender will suck or not:
THE SIXTH SENSE (1999)
Two Words: “Awesome” and “ISeeDeadPeople”
UNBREAKABLE (2000)
Movie was entertaining, a little slow at parts. But I never got off the Shyamalan bandwagon.
SIGNS (2002)
I think the huge glaring issue in this movie was that he is a terrible actor. What is he doing as a key role? Check out number 3.
THE VILLAGE (2004)
Ebert gave it terrible reviews saying it was “based on a premise that cannot support it”. Oh yeah, and he stole the premise anyway… so FAIL across the board.
LADY IN THE WATER (2006)
This movie was basically Shyamalan saying, “Hey America, I’m going to make a movie about nothing at all – but because you liked Sixth Sense so much, you’re still going to go see it. Suck it.”
THE HAPPENING (2008)
I never even saw this movie. But my friend saw it and said he made Mark Wahlberg look like a pansy. Have you seen The Departed? That is a difficult feat. Guy is badass.
AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER (2010)
You be the judge.
