The playing field for the little Gold Man will be twice as big next year. The LA Times reported that The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences will have 10 contenders for Best Picture next year. The idea is to “allow academy voters to recognize and include some of the fantastic movies that often show up in the other Oscar categories.”
Apparently the powers at be listened to the nationwide disgust when the top-grossing movie of all time wasn’t allowed to score a nomination because it didn’t have to do with Nazis. Yes, I am looking at you Reader. That movie sucked. Maybe this will be the bait to get Christopher Nolan back in the director’s chair.
But even with a bigger playing field, I still don’t think we’ll see Will Ferrel up there anytime soon.
